We are the Martin County cohort of the Minnesota DFL. We do our best to help candidates get elected to local government as well as Minnesota House and Senate offices. Of course, we want to help the candidates for higher office like the governor and House and Senate in Washington.
We are an active group with 200+ active people. Our April Caucus had over 100 attendees at the Fairmont High School. We attend many state wide meetings where our members serve on committees who help find and promote the best candidates. We:
Schedule protests
Organize meet-the-candidate dinners
Have a summer picnic
Participate in parades
Send out newsletters
Drinking Liberally Happy Hours

Come to our monthly meetings on the 3rd Saturday of every month at the Martin County Library in Fairmont at 10:15 AM downstairs. Check our on-line calendar for all events.
Our logo is unique
In 2026, we changed our logo to make it clear we are “The Democrats”. We also added a picture of one of the many painted pigs that dot this pork producing county.

The DFL’s Origin Story
The Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL) is a political party in the U.S. state of Minnesota affiliated with the national Democratic Party. The party was formed by a merger between the Minnesota Democratic Party and the Minnesota Farmer-Labor Party in 1944. The DFL is one of two state Democratic Party affiliates with a different name from that of the national party, the other being the neighboring North Dakota Democratic-Nonpartisan League Party.
The DFL controls four of Minnesota's eight US House of Representatives seats, both of its US Senate seats, the Minnesota Senator, and all other statewide offices, including the Governor of Minnesota, making it the dominant party in the state. In the MN House of Representatives, it has a power-sharing agreement with its main political rival, the Republican Party in Minnesota, following a tie in the 2024 Minnesota House of Representatives election.
